Liver Lovin' Hummus (GF, DF, V)
A lot of people love the idea of being their own boss. To them that means freedom! Turns out, I can be a really mean boss!
I've always been my own worst critic so when I'm my own boss I'm constantly under scrutiny. I'm always making work for myself and telling myself I haven't done enough. Luckily, part of my job is having fun in the kitchen developing delicious, easy, healthy recipes!
I take this time to try and have fun and just let the inspiration flow!
Today, I knew I wanted hummus. Weird craving? I don't know. I love it. But I wanted to mix it up a little. I had roasted some beets to top off that Celery Root Puree from the other day, so naturally I thought I'd toss them in. I love the wild pink colour that makes.
Knowing how fantastic beets are for liver function, I thought I would double down on the liver love and add some extra sulphurous compounds by throwing in some garlic.
Sulphur helps to up-regulate a specific detoxification pathway in the liver!
You see a lot of roasted garlic hummus, but I like to throw it in raw. The flavour doesn't come through in quite the same way, but it's there and the medicinal components remain fully intact!
The result, a punched-up hummus full of anti-oxidants and liver lovin' nutrients to aid in detoxification and overall health.
Getting a little extra liver detox can help to balance hormones and reduce stress. Maybe this recipe will get my boss to chill out and lay off a little, eh? Here's hoping!
INGREDIENTS
2 cups cooked chickpeas (or 1 BPA free can!)
1 cup roasted beets
Juice of 1 lemon
1/4 cup tahini
2 cloves raw garlic
Salt to taste
Cayenne pepper to taste (optional -- if you're feeling spicy!)
DIRECTIONS
1) Toss all ingredients in high powered blender
2) Blend until desired consistency!
3) Dip in whatever the heck you want or eat it with a spoon! It's that good!
Be kind to yourself people! Eating something pink and delicious is a start.
